WELD COUNTY, Colo. — An inmate who was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday was found dead in his cell at the Weld County Jail on Wednesday morning officials said.
Anthony Griego, 47, was in the medical observation unit at the jail when officials found him shortly after 1 a.m., according to a news release from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Team, which is investigating Griego's death.
Paramedics performed life-saving measures on Griego, who was pronounced dead about 2 a.m.
Griego was scheduled to be sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to charges of second-degree assault and arson in a domestic violence case, officials said. Griego in 2018 was wanted on kidnapping and sexual assault charges when he set his house on fire during a standoff with police, officials said.
