THORNTON, Colo. -- Thornton police are investigating a string of crimes that could potentially result in someone being injured or killed.

On Monday, three separate cars had rocks thrown through their their windshields. In each case, the rocks were thrown from the 88th Avenue bridge over I-25.

"I could very well be dead and a lot of other people could be too," Shannon Campbell told Denver7. “Just whizzed right past my head and hit the door and the window on the other side. All of the sudden, bam! I thought maybe I was shot," she recounted as a rock tore through her windshield.

Campbell, who owns the Styria Bakery II in Denver, had been driving her company van south on I-25, when a rock crashed through her passenger side windows after her vehicle passed under the East 88th Avenue bridge in Thornton.

"At that velocity there’s no way it could have fallen off the bridge. It had to have been propelled," she said.

Campbell showed Denver7 the damage to her van, and the rock she says whizzed through the cabin — inches from her face.

"I don’t know why the rock didn’t hit me. My head was in the direct path of where it came from," she said.

Thornton police tell Denver7 they're following up on two other reports of cars hit by rocks that same day. So far, officers have no suspect descriptions and no leads.

Campbell believes a guardian angel saved her life. She says she'll keep the rock.

"I might write something on it that says live in the moment... or life is short, because you never know when your time is up," she said.

She also has a message for the person who shattered her windshield and a whole lot more: "You could have killed a lot of people on Monday. So think before you throw rocks."

Investigators are asking for the public's help in this case. If you have any information, call the Thornton Police Department at (720) 977-5124.
