LONGMONT, Colo. – Several teenagers were cited in the City of Longmont for dressing up as clowns this week – reminding us all about the “creepy clowns” sightings that became national headlines not too long ago.

You may remember the sightings began in the middle of August in the Carolinas, and then spread like wildfire across the United States and some parts of Europe by the end of September.

While most of those sightings turned out to be not credible, including many reported in the state of Colorado, it seems some people will not let go of the hysteria created through social media.

Police investigated a suspicious incident early Tuesday morning, in which a group of three teenagers dressed as clowns and approached a vehicle at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Coffman Street at around 2:30 a.m.

A 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were cited for violating curfew. Another 14-year-old boy had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court.
