LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A toddler died Tuesday afternoon after falling into a backyard pond no bigger than a bath tub, a spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department said.
It happened at a home on West Louisiana Avenue at South Union Boulevard in Lakewood.
The 18-month-old girl was pulled from the pond by neighbors, according to Lakewood Police.
"Attempts to revive her at the scene as well as at the hospital were unsuccessful," police said.
Officers said the girl was being cared for by a family member and apparently wandered away from their home.
Officers are investigating how long the child was missing and how long she was in the water, but are not looking at charges at this point, said Steve Davis, a spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department.
