EVANS, Colo. -- More than a dozen Girl Scouts in Highlands Ranch delivered thousands of school supplies for low-income students in Evans on Sunday.

Girl Scout Junior Troop 1631 collected thousands of school supplies over the spring and summer for students at Union Colony Elementary School in Evans, according to Troop 1631 leader Melissa Holmberg. Among the supplies were pencils, markers, glue, scissors, binders, paper, books, and many other teaching materials.

Holmberg said the Girl Scouts collected the supplies by reaching out to schools in their own community and asking to place donation boxes in the schools’ lobby. More than a dozen schools agreed to the project, she added.

Because of this service to the community, the Girl Scouts wll earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest honor for a Girl Scout Junior.
