GOLDEN, Colo. – A man drowned Saturday while swimming in Clear Creek in unincorporated Jefferson County, the Golden Police Department said in a statement.
The man, who was only identified as a 45-year-old, was swimming with his family near Tunnel 1 off Highway 6 just after 2 p.m.
Witnesses told authorities the man was using a rope around his waist but at some point, the man took it off and began free swimming, which according to family, he had done before.
Police said the family lost sight of him. He was found approximately 28 minutes later at the Kayak Park in Golden and CPR was immediately performed on the man by an off-duty Denver Paramedic.
The man was then taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, police said.
