DENVER – The Fort Lupton sergeant who was injured in a shooting last Monday is out of the intensive care unit, officials with the Fort Lupton Police Department said Monday.
Sgt. Chris Pelton, who underwent two surgeries following the Dec. 2 shooting, has also begun mobility therapy, officials said in an update on the city government’s website.
Pelton was wounded when 19-year-old Matthew Cotter reportedly fired at arriving officers from behind a fence as they responded to the home of Cotter’s ex-girlfriend. Police went to the home after receiving a report that Cotter had called his ex-girlfriend threatening to come over to their family’s home and kill himself.

He faces one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.
His next court date is Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
