DENVER -- A water main break has closed 6th Avenue in Denver.
The 16-inch line flooded 6th Avenue and forced officials to close the busy road at Grant Avenue around 6:15 a.m.

Denver Water said 6th Avenue, between Grant and Logan will be closed through the day.
Crews will have to dig a hole and repair the water main.

Water customers on south side of East Sixth Avenue between Grant Street and Washington Street, as well as customers on Logan Street and Pennsylvania Street between East Fifth Avenue and East Sixth Avenue, will be out of water until repairs are complete, Denver Water said.

Denver Water told Denver7 that the pipe that broke is a cast iron pipe from 1890. It was installed 14 years after Colorado became a state.
Friday afternoon, Denver Water said repairs should be completed and water restored to the 28 customers affected by 6 p.m. Friday.
Eastbound lanes of 6th Avenue are scheduled to reopen overnight as crews repair the road.
