Trains serving concourses at DIA experience glitch for second straight day

DENVER – For the second day in a row, trains serving concourses and terminals at Denver International Airport experienced a glitch that caused delays and headaches for travelers wanting to get to their destinations.

Josh Deans, who was at the airport just after noon Sunday, told Denver7 a train was stuck at the terminal, not able to get to concourses.

The problem is an on-going track sensor problem – a sensor fault – that “makes the train system think there’s a train ahead on the tracks, when there isn’t one,” according to DIA spokesman Heath Montgomery.

This isn’t the first time the glitch has happened at the airport.

Travelers saw up to 40-minute wait times at TSA security checkpoints as thousands were trying to leave on one of the busiest days of the year – the day before Thanksgiving.

Montgomery told Denver7 that each time this glitch occurs, DIA officials have to route trains around the affected section of the track, which delays the trains’ departure at each station.

The glitch on Sunday was resolved in about 15 minutes, according to Montgomery.

Trains at concourses also experienced delays on Saturday morning, but DIA officials still don’t know what caused the problem.

This latest computer glitch adds to DIA’s woes.

Since the University of Colorado A Line opened in late April of 2016, the so-called "train to the plane" has been plagued with delays, shutdowns and other mechanical issues.
