Denver police are extremely concerned about five stolen guns that are now in the hands of criminals. Two men broke into the Bass Pro Shops in Denver early Thursday morning.
Investigators are looking at surveillance video from the store and other nearby businesses as they try to gather evidence about the suspects.
The store is located in The Shops At Northfield Stapleton, near Interstate 70 and Interstate 270. Police said it happened around 2:30 a.m.
"Anytime you have guns that are taken in a crime in a situation like this it greatly concerns us. We’re concerned for public safety, [we have questions about] what was the intent of stealing these weapons, what was the motive and what are they going to do with them now that they’ve taken those," said Sonny Jackson, a spokesperson with the Denver Police Department.
The thieves broke in to the store and entered through a back door. Denver7 crews noticed shattered glass near one of the doors. Police said the men also took other items from the store but would not elaborate.
The ATF is assisting Denver police with the investigation.
