There today, gone tomorrow: Chalk Art downtown

Dozens of temporary art pieces became one with the blacktop this weekend as a part of the 2016 Denver Chalk Art Festival.

The three-day festival draws tens of thousands of visitors daily to Larimer Square in downtown Denver and features 200 artists. Skills range from student to professional, but each art piece takes many hours to make.

"Well, prep, doing the sketch, doing the grid. And everything, I started Friday afternoon, actually. I've done 16 to 18 hours. I have 8 to 10 left, maybe," said Lauren Bassett.

Bassett's hand was taped and her fingers blackened from drawing many layers of color on her black lab artwork.

The festival ends at 7:00 p.m. on the final day, Sunday. Visitors are invited to vote for their favorite artists. Each artwork is accompanied with a letter and number for viewers to text their vote.
