DENVER – A person is dead and another is in critical condition following a car crash on Interstate 70 early Sunday morning.

At around 4 a.m., a white Infiniti left the eastbound lanes of I-70 at Grape Street for an unknown reason and hit a tree, taking out a power box in the process.

Five people were taken to a local hospital for treatment. One of them died sometime later, police said. Another remains in critical condition.

It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash, according to Al Shell, a spokesperson for the Denver Police Department.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The investigation into what led to the crash is still ongoing.
