DENVER -- A Denver Police Sergeant will be named a Broncos Country hero during Denver's game against the Houston Texas Monday night.
"He is being honored as part of our Broncos Country Heroes at the first break of the first quarter," said Seth Medvin, a spokesperson for the Denver Broncos. "Fans and members of community submit nominations each week and he was selected for this game."
Lopez Jr. was shot five times during a traffic stop near W. 37th Avenue and Federal Boulevard on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Police caught the suspect at 20th Street and Chestnut Place after a chase.
Police said Lopez Jr. was shot in an arm and both legs, and a bulletproof vest protected him from shots to his torso.
He underwent at least three major surgeries before he was released from the hospital on New Year's Eve. Months later, he is still healing, attending more than eight hours of physical therapy a week and facing the possibility of another surgery.
