DENVER -- New surveillance video shows a man stealing from a Denver garage in the middle of the afternoon, while the homeowner and his fiancée were sitting inside their home.

After hearing about recent burglaries near his home, Daniel Glauser decided to install a camera in his detached garage. Just a few weeks later he watched as a man walked in and stole two bicycles.

"You can tell in the footage that the guy was out in two, two-and-a-half minutes," said Glauser.

The footage also shows the thief noticing the camera and snatching that too. Little did he know his face was already saved in Glauser's computer.

"I'm very disappointed and creeped out because when we looked at the time on the video, it happened while we were home," Glauser said.

The Denver Police crime map shows burglaries in the Baker neighborhood have spiked over the past year.

From January 1 to present, there have been more than 60 burglaries in the Baker neighborhood. That's nearly triple the amount compared to the same time last year, according to the crime map's statistics.

Glauser said his whole neighborhood is working together to try and stop the crimes.

"We all have a stake in living here... we all would like to keep our stuff," said Glauser.

Police tell Denver7 this case could very well be a crime of opportunity. The department urges homeowners to make it harder for thieves so they never choose your home in the first place.

If you recognize the man in the surveillance video, call police.
