VIDEO: Goose frozen to ice in Wash Park rescued

Posted

A Canada goose that was frozen to the ice on Smith Lake in Washington Park was rescued by officers with the Denver Fire Department on Thursday.

The goose was stuck to the ice about 10 yards or so north of the boathouse, according to a Denver7 viewer who emailed us a nighttime photo of the bird from Wednesday.

The viewer said the bird was flapping its wings, while its gaggle "was going nuts."

On Thursday, the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center said Engine 21 from the Denver Fire Department assisted with the goose rescue.

In a grainy video posted to their Facebook page, fire department officials are seen using a rescue boat to get to the goose, break the ice and bring it back to shore.

"Rehabbers at Greenwood will reassess the goose tomorrow after the bird has calmed down from all the excitement. But for now, the goose is on some pain medication and resting," an official with the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center said on the video post.
