DENVER -- It's nothing new that Denver's Five Points neighborhood has been considered a food desert.

Food deserts are defined as low-income areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food. A new restaurant off California Street and Park Avenue West is a welcome site for residents.

Cluster Truck Kitchen isn't your ordinary restaurant, as there are no seats. It's just a stand-alone kitchen that delivers all of its food to customers within a three-mile radius of the kitchen. The delivery service is free.

"We identified this area as an underserved area," said general manager David Hopkins. "We wanted to be able to help out with that."

For years the city of Denver has worked to bring more food options to areas like Five Points.

"We focus on communities where folks don't have a vehicle. They tend to be lower-income communities," said Blake Angelo, manager of Denver Food Systems Management.

Cluster Truck Kitchen is certainly a welcome business.

"New services... whether they’re mobile or delivery, are really interesting and exciting because they start to provide more options to more people," said Angelo.

Cluster Truck Kitchen will start taking orders from Five Points residents on Monday, December 4.
