DENVER – A community forum was held Saturday to discuss the future of the Park Hill Golf Course after the City of Denver suspended its plan to buy the land last year, leaving its future up in the air.
Sponsored by several neighborhood organizations, the meeting, held at the Park Hill Congregation Church, aimed to engage residents by informing them of the current leasing dispute between the current tenants of the golf course and the owners of the land.
Arcis Golf, a company based out of Dallas, Texas, currently leases the land and runs the course. Clayton Early Learning, an education nonprofit that manages the George W. Clayton Trust, owns the land.
The dispute stems from a leasing issue over a perpetual open space conservation easement, which could end at the end of this year if Arcis doesn’t inform Clayton whether or not it plans to re-up the lease by June 30.
Should the golf course lease end, Clayton is expected to the ask the City of Denver to relinquish the open space protections and allow rezoning and development of all or portion of the land.
President of Clayton Early Learning Charlotte Brantely told Denver7 last year that the nonprofit uses the money generated from the land to fund early education program for low-income children.
