DENVER – The family of a young pregnant woman who was last seen in February 2013 has not stopped searching after nearly six years following her disappearance, and during the month of February, her family is upping the reward for any information that may lead to new clues about her whereabouts.
Kelsie Schelling was eight weeks pregnant when she left Denver to drive to Pueblo to see her boyfriend. The only trace left behind was her abandoned car, found four days later at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital.
As has been the case for the past several years, the Schelling family is hoping a bigger monetary reward during the month of February – the month in which she disappeared and also the month of her birthday – will lead to information that will help them find her.
“The person of interest in Ms. Schelling’s case is currently incarcerated and awaiting trial. Ms. Schelling’s family hopes that someone will find it in his/her heart to come forward before the case reaches its impending trial date. The identities and contact information of submitting parties may remain confidential,” reads a statement from a family spokesperson, adding that the family implores anyone and everyone to submit any information – no matter how irrelevant they may consider it to be.
The family has a Facebook page and a website where tips and information can be sent.
Man accused of killing Schelling pleads not guilty
Donthe Lucas, who in 2018 was accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, pleaded not guilty in August to a murder charge in connection with Schelling’s death and to separate charges in connection with a robbery and assault case.
The 26-year-old as arraigned on the first-degree murder after deliberation charge and the separate aggravated robbery with a weapon and third-degree assault charges.
On Dec. 1, 2017, he was charged in the disappearance of Schelling, which police are calling a homicide though her body has never been found.
Schelling’s family will be at the Colorado State Capitol on Monday to raise awareness of her disappearance on Missing Person’s Day.
