Two suspects are on the run after a person was shot outside a southeast Denver Japanese steakhouse restaurant early Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The shooting was reported in the area of South Tamarac Drive and East Hampden Avenue around 1:30 p.m. just outside the Benihana Denver restaurant.

Denver Police say they don't know if the gunman fired into the car our outside of it.

Among the evidence markers placed at the scene, there was one adjacent to a gun on the ground next to one of the cars hit by the SUV.

When asked if the shooting might be drug-related, Technician Raquel Lopez said, "It's still early in the investigation."

A neighbor told Denver 7 she saw one man running from the scene toward an apartment complex just to the east.

"He ran right in front of my car," she said.

Lopez said investigators want to talk to two men who were seen leaving the scene.

Police released the following the description on both suspects:

  • Black male in his 30's, measuring 5-feet, 10-inches tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a blue and white plaid shirt.
  • Black male in his 20's with braids.

The victim was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds and was in critical condition, police said.

If you recognize these suspects, you are asked to call 911 immediately.
