COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – An investigation is underway after a man was hit and killed by a train in Commerce City late Friday night.
Commerce City Police, along with the South Adams County Fire Department, responded to the 6600 block of Colorado Highway 2 at around 10:30 p.m. on a report of a man struck by a train.
Officers said the man was struck by a Burlington Northern locomotive going south at the time of the deadly crash.
Railroad personnel reported seeing the man sitting on the tracks, saying they tried to stop the train but could not do so in time and struck the man.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified.
The train blocked East 72nd Avenue at Highway 2 to allow for the investigation scene but has since been cleared, police said in a press release.
