BRIGHTON, Colo. -- A police standoff that forced road closures and put three schools on lockout in Brighton ended peacefully Tuesday evening.
The standoff, at 10th Avenue and Bush Street, started around 5:15 a.m. when a man called 9-1-1 to say he would shoot officers that he said were preparing to kick in his door. However, police said there was nobody outside the man's house.
Officers came to the scene, closed 10th Avenue from Bridge to Bush, and spent hours trying to talk to man out of his home, according to the Brighton Police Dept. Police later learned that a woman with an arrest warrant was inside the home with the man.
Brighton High School, Brighton Heritage Academy and Vikan Middle School were on lockout.
The two suspects eventually gave up and surrendered to police around 4 p.m. The were identified as 45-year-old Todd Wollert and 40-year-old Sarah Welsh.
Police believe Wollert may be under the influence of something.
