Man pointed loaded gun at kids after snowballs hit his van in Boulder, police say

BOULDER, Colo. -- A man was arrested after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at kids who hit his van with snowballs.

The kids said they were playing a game of who could throw the snowball the furthest on Saturday afternoon on 35th Street, near Colorado Avenue, in Boulder.

The kids said one of the snowballs hit a Honda minivan and the driver leaned out the window and pointed a gun at them, according to the police report obtained by Denver7.

One child told police the man, "The owner was looking for who to shoot. He stopped at me and he shot the gun, but the bullet didn't come out."

The kids told officers that when one of their dad's arrived, the man left, according to the police report.

While the kids were talking to the officers, they spotted the van again. The officers said they followed the van and got the driver to stop nearby.

While there was a language barrier, the man told police he was napping outside a nearby church when he heard loud bangs.

"Scared, he reached into his back seat area, grabbed his holstered .38 revolver, and 'showed' it to the kids," the man told police, according to the report.

The report said the man told officers several times that he did not shoot at the kids.

When asked why the revolver was missing a cartridge, the man told police he "purposely leaves the first chamber empty for additional safety."

After other witnesses corroborated the statements of the kids, police arrested Richard Nam, 55, on suspicion of menacing and reckless endangerment/child abuse.
