NEDERLAND, Colo. – A young man who was struck by lightning outside a tent at a Boulder County campsite was conscious and breathing at the time he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The man, who was only identified as being 19-years-old, was camping with his girlfriend in Ruby Gulch, off Forest Service Road 328E, when he was struck by lightning as he stood next to their tent, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the woman immediately began to try and resuscitate him as she called 911.
She was eventually able to get her boyfriend into their car and drive west to the Peak-to-Peak Highway (Highway 72) and Forest Service Road 328, which is north of Nederland between the 30 and 40 mile marker, where she met responding medical personnel, the sheriff’s office said.
They, in turn, continued to render medical aid until they were met by an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance.
The young man was taken to a local Boulder hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
