BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- Dozens of people in a northwest Boulder neighborhood got an emergency alert warning them to secure their homes because of a manhunt in their neighborhood Monday night.

The incident started when a sheriff's deputy tried to stop a vehicle for speeding at about 8:20 p.m. Monday night near 28th and Violet.

"When the deputy activated his emergency lights the vehicle began to slow as if it were looking for a place to pull over, but continued to travel northbound on 28th Street," the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said. "As the vehicle passed Yarmouth it accelerated rapidly in an attempt to elude the deputy."

Officials said the deputy turned off his emergency equipment and didn't chase the driver, but less than a mile later, the driver tried to turn on Broadway, hit a post and disabled the car.

The driver and passenger ran into a nearby field. Multiple deputies, police officers, the SWAT team and K-9's were called in to search for the two men.

During the search, an emergency alert was sent to residents of the Dakota Ridge Neighborhood asking them to "secure their homes and to be aware of the heavy police presence."

Three hours later, the two suspects were found hiding in a vestibule of a townhome building a quarter mile from the crash, deputies said.

Kaylob Lee Marrs, 21, and David Gerardo Fuentes-Fuentes, 19, were arrested, deputies said. It's believed the vehicle they were driving had been stolen.
