BOULDER, Colo. -- Police arrested a man Friday morning after a standoff that lasted more than six hours in Boulder.
Police said Kelly Engel, 50, allegedly assaulted his roommate on Kirkwood Place and fled.
"He returned home later that same the day and threatened to end his roommate’s life and then his own," Boulder police said.
Police responded to the home near 19th Street and Iris Avenue at 11:38 p.m. Thursday.
"Engel indicated to officers that he was armed," Boulder police said. "The roommate was safely removed from the residence."
Boulder police and SWAT were in a standoff with the man overnight.
Officers said shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, Engel was taken into custody on suspicion of felony assault on an at-risk-adult.
Investigators said additional charges are possible.
