DENVER -- Boulder County is reporting that three residents there have already been hospitalized this fall for the flu.
"Flu season is just getting started," Boulder County Public Health said in statement reminding residents to get a flu shot. "It takes about two weeks to develop immunity from the flu after getting vaccinated for it."
So far, 14 people have been hospitalized for the flu in Colorado. The people who have been hospitalized were in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Fremont and Pueblo counties.
Most of the Colorado cases this season, 12 of them, have been Type A strains (including the H1N1 and H3 strains). Only two cases have been Type B.
Last year, 1,639 people were hospitalized for the flu in Colorado. The state only tracks flu hospitalizations, not people who get treatment from their doctor.
The flu season typically peaks in January or February in Colorado.
