A 15-year-old without a driver's license is being blamed for a crash that sent four people to the hospital, including another driver who was critically injured.
Aurora police said an officer conducting speed enforcement at I-225 and Parker Road at 12:44 a.m. Saturday saw a red 2012 Dodge Charger speed by at 80 mph.
"The officer merged onto the highway and attempted to stop the Dodge but upon the driver seeing the police vehicle he increased speed and eluded, continuing northbound," Aurora police wrote on their website. "The officer discontinued trying to stop the vehicle as the Dodge was driving recklessly, weaving around other traffic."
The Dodge exited at E. Mississippi Ave., didn't stop at the intersection, drove over the center median, went slightly airborne, and broadsided a Jeep Liberty, police said.
The 29-year-old driver of the Jeep Liberty sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash. Police said the woman is in ICU in critical condition.
The driver of the Dodge is 15 years old. Police said he did not have a driver's license or permit.
He was hospitalized, as were two juvenile female passengers, ages 14 and 15, in his car, police said.
Investigators said charges against the at-fault driver are pending the outcome of the investigation.
