AURORA, Colo. -- Amazon is planning to open a large fulfillment center in Aurora and hire about 1,000 people.
The fulfillment center will be a one million square-foot facility where employees will pick, pack and ship larger customer items, such as sports equipment, musical instruments and furniture.
Amazon already has a sorting center in Aurora.
"The company's announcement of a second facility and many more jobs for our state is something to celebrate," said Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.
Amazon said full-time employees receive competitive hourly wages, healthcare, 401(k) and company stock awards.
"We are excited to create 1,000 new full-time jobs in Colorado that pay 30 percent higher than traditional retail jobs and receive comprehensive benefits starting on day one," said Akash Chauhan, Amazon's vice president of North America Operations.
The new fulfillment center, at Smith Way and 19th Avenue in Aurora, is less than five miles away from Amazon's sorting facility, which opened last June. The new fulfillment center is already under construction, Amazon officials told Denver7.
