CENTRAL CITY, Colo. – City officials say all residents of Central City can go back to drinking their water following Friday’s major water main break.
Officials received test results Sunday afternoon from the Colorado Department of Health that showed water was safe to drink again. City officials were then given permission to lift a “boil order” that was placed on the whole city.
The water main break occurred along the 300 block of Eureka Street at 6:45 a.m. Friday, after the water system lost pressure due to a break in the main conduit that supplies drinking water to the city.
Officials said that rupture could increase the chance of harmful microbes in the water.
Service returned to all homes and businesses Saturday, but the “boil order” was in effect for another 24 hours to make sure water was safe to drink.
“This was a challenging time for citizens and businesses alike, but the sense of community and cooperation has been admirable,” a city official said.
