Englewood, Colo. — The woman police shot in an Englewood parking garage on Wednesday has been identified as 26-year-old Chayley Nicole Tolin.
Around 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2019, officers with the Englewood Police Department responded to a parking garage located at 600 E. Hampden Ave., on a report of an occupied stolen vehicle.
When officers arrived at the scene, they saw that two people inside the vehicle.
During a following interaction, police shot Tolin. Based on a preliminary investigation, Tolin attempted to flee the area and while doing so, attempted to drive over officers at the scene, according to police.

She was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. Several days later, she was released from the hospital and jailed at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer.
The passenger in the vehicle, James Helms, 35, was taken into custody. He was jailed at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant. He has not been charged with anything related to this incident.
No officers were injured.
The investigation has been turned over to the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team.
