ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The woman shot by Englewood police in a parking garage at Swedish Medical Center on Jan. 16 was charged last Friday with 16 counts, including 10 felonies.

Chayley Tolin, 27, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated motor vehicle theft, four counts of felony menacing, vehicular eluding, reckless driving, three counts of leaving the scene, and a felony bond violation after her arrest.

Court records indicate the bond violation stems from a July 2018 arrest in Gilpin County for felony drug possession and Tolin’s failure to appear in court on the charge.

Tolin was shot by Englewood police in a parking garage in the 600 block of E. Hampden Ave. after officers were called out on a report of a stolen vehicle.

Police said that Tolin tried to flee the scene and allegedly tried to run over officers while doing so. Tolin was hospitalized for several days before she was jailed in Arapahoe County.

No officers were injured in the incident and those who shot their weapons have not been identified. A passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old James Helms, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team is investigating the shooting. Tolin is set to appear for a preliminary hearing in the case on Feb. 19. Court records show Tolin is being held on a $150,000 bond in the Englewood case.
