COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A woman who was riding a bicycle early Saturday morning was killed after she was struck by an SUV in Commerce City, said a spokesperson for the Commerce City Police Department.

Investigators say the woman was riding her bicycle against traffic going south on the northbound lane of Holly Street near the area of 64th Avenue, when she collided with an SUV that was driving east on 64th and approaching Holly St., according Commerce City Police Commander Dennis Flynn.

Medical personnel attended to the injured cyclist after she was thrown from her bicycle, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, Flynn said, adding the intersection of Holly and 64th is expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

Police said this is the seventh fatal traffic accident in Commerce City in 2018.
