LAKEWOOD, Colo. – A man is in custody following an hours-long standoff with Lakewood police Saturday.

It started when officers found a stolen car in the parking lot of the Crossland Economy Suits Hotel at around 7 a.m.

Police said the car fled from the parking lot and rammed a patrol car before going into a neighborhood in the area of 8th Avenue and Kipling Street.

The driver then reportedly ran into an empty house where police were negotiating with him to turn himself in.

A female passenger was detained and released with no charges, a Lakewood Police Department spokesperson told Denver7.

The suspect was in custody just before 1 p.m.

He was identified as Cameron Basquez, 26, by police. He was charged with aggravated motor vehicle theft, first-degree criminal trespass-residence and disobeying a lawful order.

It's unclear if Basquez has been assigned a defense attorney.
