AURORA, Colo. -- The man police say crashed into an Aurora day care trying to elude an officer was identified Thursday. Two children and an adult female employee suffered minor injuries.
Neco Benson was reportedly fleeing from a hit-and-run crash in a Dodge Dart when he was spotted by an Aurora police officer on Wednesday afternoon.
The officer began to pursue Benson on South Havana Street when the Dodge turned into the Havana Gardens Shopping Center, struck a parked car and careened into Bright Stars Child Care located in the shopping center, according to police.
The owner of Bright Stars Childcare on Havana said the car crushed the area just three feet from where he was standing.
“I was scared. There are no words to describe [it]. People give us their children to take care of their children,” said Masroor Farooqi.
He said police immediately showed up and continued chasing Benson as he tried to run away from the day care.
Farooqi also said the suspect was acting pretty strange.
“He came out and then he was sort of giving an explanation or apologizing or something like that. I don’t know what he was doing,” Farooqi said.
Benson was arrested on vehicular eluding, possession of a controlled substance, driving while under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment.
He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
