AURORA, Colo. – A routine traffic stop ended with a shooting that left a man dead in Aurora late Saturday night, according to the Aurora Police Department.
It happened at approximately 11:28 p.m. in the area of East Smoky Hill Road and South Mobile Way as officers were conducting a traffic stop near that intersection.
Police department officials said they contacted an adult male in the vehicle. A short time later, an officer fired his weapon at the suspect.
Investigators did not say what prompted the officer to fire at the suspect.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A weapon was found in the suspect’s vehicle, according to police.
There were no injuries to the officers involved, police said.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. The investigation is ongoing.
