AURORA, Colo. – A woman is recovering at a hospital after she was reportedly assaulted, stabbed and left to die inside a burning home in Aurora late Thursday afternoon.

Officers with the Aurora Police Department found the woman outside her home – injured from an apparent stab wound – after they received a call of an assault and a home on fire in the area of Moline Street and E. Montview Boulevard at around 3:44 p.m.

The woman told police she answered a knock on her door and let several men in as she thought they were there to work on her home. Instead, however, the woman was attacked and subsequently stabbed during a robbery attempt before she lost consciousness, according to Aurora Fire Department spokesperson Laure Bridges.

When she came to her senses, the woman saw her home was on fire and immediately called 911.

Arriving crews found the injured woman outside her home and she was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s unclear how the fire started, but the Aurora Police and Fire Departments are working closely to investigate the blaze.

Streets adjacent to the home were closed as investigators worked the scene. The roads have since been reopened.
