Police launch homicide probe after groaning man found on Cherry Creek sandbar

DENVER – Police in Denver are investigating a homicide after a man covered in blood was found near Cherry Creek Trail early Sunday morning.

Faint groans coming from the creek that morning got the attention of a neighbor who called 911. Police arrived a short time later in the area of East Cherry Creek Drive North and South Monroe Street and found the man covered in blood on a sandbar. 

Paramedics transported the victim, whose name and age has not been released, to the hospital where police say he succumbed to his injuries Tuesday night.

The circumstances that led up to the victim’s injuries are not known. The cause of death has yet to be released.

Police are currently looking for the suspect or suspects involved. However, investigators are unable to provide a description at this time.
