Pipe bombs found inside stolen vehicle at Walmart parking lot in Broomfield

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Three people were taken into custody after two pipe bombs were found inside a stolen vehicle at a Walmart parking lot in Broomfield early Sunday morning.

Zachary Reuben Rickard, 30; John Anthony Ulibarri, 48; and Heather Nicole Moore, 28, were being held at the Broomfield County Detention Center after a police officer who was conducting a business check found them inside a stolen vehicle at the parking lot of the Walmart just after 4 a.m.

The vehicle had been stolen out of Thornton on March 14, according to an official with the Broomfield Police Department.

Investigators said Rickard had shoplifted while inside the store.  

During a search of the vehicle, police said they discovered two pipe bombs inside, prompting the Adams County Bomb Squad to assist in successfully taking the devices apart just before 9:30 a.m.

Three suspects charged 

Rickard was being held on several charges, including: possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of explosives or incendiary devices, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and motor vehicle theft.

Moore was being held on charges of motor vehicle theft, driving under restraint, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, fraud - criminal possession of a financial device, possession of explosives or incendiary devices, fugitive from justice and drug distribution. 

Ulibarri was being held on charges of being a fugitive from justice.  

Police said Rickard and Moore both live in Littleton. Ulibarri is from Denver. 

Court records obtained by Denver7 show all three have extensive criminal histories dating more than a decade. All have been previously arrested for drug possession, stolen vehicle and assault charges over the years.

The Walmart at 4651 W. 121st Avenue was open for business and there was no longer any danger to the public following the investigation, police said.
