ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. – A person was killed after a duplex went up in flames in Arapahoe County early Sunday.
South Metro Firefighters responded to the duplex in the 5500 block of South Lansing Way, located just south of the Cherry Creek Reservoir, just after 4:00 a.m.
Investigators at the scene reported seeing flames that were visible from the basement, as well as the first and second floors of the unit.

Neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
“Frightening morning, not the way you want to wake up," said neighbor Christine Furgason. “It was sad, it's hard to watch. You could hear it crackle periodically. We just wanted to make sure everybody else’s house was safe and (the fire) wasn’t going to come towards us.”
One person was found dead inside the unit where the fire started, fire officials said after putting out the blaze. Investigators did not release any more details about the identity of the victim.
No other occupants were inside, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators were still on scene late Sunday morning working to determine the cause of the fire.
