On-duty Denver Police officer arrested for investigation of second-degree assault

DENVER – A Denver Police officer has been arrested for investigation of second-degree assault.

In a statement sent to Denver7, a spokesperson for the police department said Sergeant Joseph Rodarte was arrested Thursday for investigation of second-degree assault in connection with a use of force incident that took place while he was on-duty on Aug. 22.

Officials said Rodarte was arrested after they consulted with the Denver District Attorney’s Office following a review of his actions that day.

The officer is currently suspended without pay pending the outcome of the criminal case, the department spokesperson said in the statement.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
