DENVER – An attempted murder suspect who escaped from deputies at Denver Health Medical Center more than five months ago was apprehended Friday by authorities in Thornton.

The Denver Police Department tweeted Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez had been apprehended with the help of the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force and the Thornton Police Department Friday afternoon. A specific time for his arrest was not immediately provided.

Venzor-Gonzalez had been on the run since he escaped from Denver Health back in March 19.

The suspect was being held on a number of charges, including attempted murder and assault of a police officer before he ran away from the facility.

Venzor-Gonzalez was the focus of a manhunt last year after he allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend and her 1-year-old child.

Officials had several run-ins with the suspect last year including a high-speed chase in the Pueblo area, which Venzor-Gonzalez eventually escaped. Police later found his abandoned car.

A reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the man's whereabouts had been offered by Denver authorities just days after his escape from the hospital.
