Man wanted on 5 counts of sex assault on a child arrested, Fort Collins Police say

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A man wanted on five counts of sex assault on a child, who had been on the run from police has been arrested Wednesday, Fort Collins Police Services announced via Facebook.

Andrew Vanderwal, 27, was arrested in Texas for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to jail records from El Paso, Texas County Jail. It wasn't clear how long he was avoiding law enforcement and calls made to authorities were not returned.   

The warrant was out for his arrest out of Fort Collins.

Vanderwal is being held without bond.

It’s unclear if has been assigned a public defender or a defense attorney.
