CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) — Colorado prosecutors say a man who repeatedly stabbed a woman and then dumped her body alongside a highway has been found guilty of first-degree murder and is facing a lifetime prison sentence.

Douglas County jurors on Friday also found 38-year-old Mihail Petrov guilty of seven other charges in the death of 24-year-old Shelby Weatherly.

Weatherly’s body was found on the side of Interstate 25 in Douglas County in September of 2017. An autopsy found she had been stabbed 19 times.

Prosecutors said police found Weatherly’s blood on Petrov’s clothing and inside his car and determined that Petrov’s fingerprints were on items found with the woman’s body. Authorities also said Petrov told two people he had killed someone.

Petrov is set to be sentenced on April 30.
