DENVER – The man arrested last week after he was filmed urinating on a seat aboard a Frontier flight from Denver to Charleston, S.C. physically and verbally harassed several women and had to be moved by flight attendants several times for his behavior, according to an affidavit for his arrest.
Michael Allen Haag, 45, was charged in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina with two violations of federal code as it relates to interfering with flight crew members and indecent exposure aboard an aircraft.
According to the federal affidavit, Haag was arrested when he landed in Charleston around 9:15 p.m. on May 17.
Passengers who experienced or witnessed Haag’s alleged behavior told the FBI special agent who wrote the affidavit that over the course of the flight, Haag ordered and drank two double-shot vodka-tonics and became increasingly inappropriate in his actions.
One woman who was seated across the aisle from Haag said he made “crude comments” about traveling to Charleston to meet up with an old girlfriend and that he was “physically excited.”
As the woman tried to sleep, according to the affidavit, Haag pestered her, asking questions “about what kind of man she liked, what her ‘deal’ was, and about her relationship with her husband” and looking at her legs and chest.
He ordered his second drink, then moved onto another woman who was seated next to him, the affidavit says.
That woman had been sleeping, but awoke when Haag started touching her fingers, and then her leg.
At that point, according to the affidavit, the woman yelled at Haag to “stop touching me.” The affidavit says he apologized, but the woman told him to “back off.”
When Haag touched the woman’s leg again, she “stood up and started yelling” for flight attendants to get him away from her, the affidavit says.
At that point, a flight attendant took him to the back of the plane. The first woman told the FBI agent that she believed Haag was “clearly intoxicated and possibly high.”
After he was moved to the back of the plane, another person said flight attendants had to help Haag find his seatbelt, but shortly afterward, Haag started urinating on the seat in front of him. The person seated across from him took a picture and yelled for flight attendants to “deal with” Haag, after which he was again moved toward the front of the plane, the affidavit says.
A Frontier Airlines spokesperson would not comment on the specifics of the incident when contacted by Denver7 earlier this week but did provide a statement: “The safety and security of our passengers is our top priority at Frontier. We have been made aware of this situation and are working with the appropriate authorities.”
According to the affidavit, the exposure charge is a misdemeanor for which Haag could be fined or jailed if convicted, but violating the other code Haag is accused of violating carries a penalty of fines and up to 20 years in prison.
