AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Major Crimes Unit is preparing to search an area of the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site Landfill after police found a large amount of human blood near a dumpster Monday.

Investigators have sectioned off a part of the dump to avoid evidence from being tampered with and to stop any further trash dumps from happening in the location under investigation.

A resident found the blood on Monday morning and called 911.

“When I came across this way to dump my little bucket of trash I picked up around the complex, I saw this blood, a whole lot of it,” said Sheryl McHenry, a Del Mar Apartments resident. “Of course I’m concerned about the safety around here and there’s also children that live in this area so we didn't want any of that to have happened.”

Police got on scene to find the blood located in the west-side ally of the Del Mar Apartments Complex. Authorities began holding the scene at the dump, which is located at 3500 S. Gun Club Road in Aurora on Tuesday morning.

Aurora Police confirmed the blood was human after Monday’s investigation and said that it was a suspicious occurrence. Aurora Police has not confirmed if there was a definite body involved.

The blood apparently seeped through the cracks in the dumpster, forming a large pool in a tray underneath, creating a larger leak into the alleyway.

The Aurora Police Department is asking the public to contact its tip line at 303-739-6400 if they have a friend, family member, associate or co-worker who lives in the area of Del Mar Circle who they have been unable to get in contact with. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call that phone number.
