AURORA, Colo. – An armed and dangerous fugitive wanted by two Colorado police agencies was arrested Saturday in the state of Iowa.

Blake Newton, 23, was wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies in both Denver and Boulder, beginning on November 6.

That night, Newton reportedly robbed and injured a woman of her purse ath the North Boulder Recreation Center parking lot.

Two days later, he allegedly held up a Bradly Gas Station in Denver in the area of South Holly Street and Evans Avenue before escaping in a vehicle which he later left in an alley near 39th and Raleigh.

On Saturday, ten days after his crime spree began in Boulder, Newton was taken into custody in Iowa, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Council Bluffs officers said they were contacted by the FBI who told them that Newton was by a Target in the area. Officers stood by until the suspect drove to the parking lot on the side of a Qdoba, which is when they approached Newton who police said was able to get back into his vehicle and led officers on a short chase.

Not long after, officers performed at PIT maneuver, which caused Newton's vehicle to stop on the top of a median.

Police said Newton then tried to run on foot and try to steal another vehicle, but was stopped by authorities.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and police found a loaded 9mm gun along with a small amount of marijuana.

Newton was being held in the Pottawattamie County Jail in Council Buffs, Iowa.

He is being charged with felony eluding, reckless driving and possession of a weapon. He is being held on a $5,000 bond.
