COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A suspected shooter who had Colorado Springs on edge Friday afternoon has been taken into custody, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Neal Joseph Arceneaux, 31, was taken into custody without incident shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday, after a resident called police and said he was in the area of Palmer Park Boulevard and Bates Drive.

Arceneaux was the subject of a manhunt after he was reportedly engaged in a shooting with police in the area of North Union Boulevard and Vickers Drive just before 4 p.m. Friday.

The shooting and subsequent search for the suspect prompted the police department to send emergency notifications telling residents to shelter in place

Police also set up a large perimeter around the area and described what was happening as a “critical incident.”

The suspect, described as measuring 6-feet-6 inches tall, evaded police through the night.

In the meantime, neighbors were told to shelter in place “until further notice.” It’s not clear when neighbors were allowed to go out of their homes.

The area of Union and Vickers was closed for several more hours Saturday as police conducted their investigation.

Arceneaux was wanted on numerous felony warrants unrelated to this shooting.
