COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Colorado Springs police shot and killed a man who officers say pulled a handgun as they were trying to take him into custody.
The Gazette reports police were trying to arrest the man on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant Saturday evening when he began resisting and fighting the officers. He was shot when he brandished the weapon.
The man, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital.
The officers involved in the shooting suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. They have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
The shooting happened fewer than 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from downtown Colorado Springs, where thousands of people were watching the annual Festival of Lights parade.
