AURORA, Colo. – Officers with the Aurora Police Department said they’re investigating an attempted child abduction in southwest Aurora Thursday evening.

Police said it happened in the area of Exposition Avenue and S. Nome Street, but did not release more information about the investigation.

The suspect is described as a 39-year-old skinny white male, measuring approximately 6-feet-4-inches tall with facial hair on his chin. Police said he was last seen wearing sunglasses, a large black coat with a hood, blue jeans and black shoes.

Officers said via Twitter the victim, who was only described as a juvenile female, was safe.

In an update later in the evening, Aurora PD said that they believe a black, older model 4-door sedan was possibly in the area during the attempted child abduction, adding the occupants of the vehicle may have been witnesses. They asked that those people contact police immediately.

The Aurora Police Department is asking residents to be vigilant and to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
