ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Two people accused of starting a wildfire near Aspen by firing incendiary tracer rounds at a shooting range have been charged.
The Aspen Daily News reports that 23-year-old Richard Miller and 22-year-old Allison Marcus were each charged this week with three counts of fourth-degree arson, one for each home destroyed in the Lake Christine Fire, and one count of setting fire to woods or prairie.
The arson charge means authorities believe they knowingly or recklessly started the fire on July 3 at a public shooting range near Basalt.
According to court documents, Marcus and Miller stayed at the range and Marcus admitted to starting the fire, which is still burning.
However, Marcus' lawyer, former Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett, previously said it would be difficult case for prosecutors to prove.
